A parents guide to primary testing A parents guide to primary testing

Year 3

There are currently no high-pressure tests in year 3.  However, this is one of only three years in primary school where your child will not have to sit a formal government assessment. And if the Reception Baseline Assessment comes into being in September 2021, as the government has indicated, it will mean tests in five out of seven years.

It is totally wrong that young children should have to sit so many formal tests during their primary schooling. Particularly when it has been disrupted by Covid-19 and many pupils will have faced distress, illness and even bereavement. This is why it has never been more important for the heads, teachers, education experts and parents of More Than A Score to focus their energy on the Drop SATS 2021 campaign and get testing cancelled permanently in this school year.

There are more supportive ways to assess children, and schools should be measured on the overall quality of education that they provide. Please show your agreement by joining forces with us.
