Year 2

• There are no high-pressure tests in year 2 following the cancellation of the previous key stage 1 SATs tests
• There are still government tests in four out of seven primary years. Some schools may still run formal tests in the summer term of year 2
• This causes teaching to the test, a narrow curriculum and unnecessary pressure for children, teachers and parents
• In many schools, children in year 2 are already put in sets to prepare for English and maths to prepare for year 6 SATs
